Nokia X, launched at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, is a new platform and family of smartphones which targets the growing demand for affordable smartphones, primarily in growth markets. Nokia X is based on the Android Open Source project (AOSP).

Android apps can be adapted to run on Nokia X devices with just a few adjustments. At droidcon, Nokia offers app developers to help them port their apps to the new platform.

Moreover, developers who port and publish their apps have the chance to be awarded one of 50 Nokia X smartphones. To apply for this offer, developers just need to

  • send links to already published apps, e.g. in Google Play Store or
  • if an app is not yet published, send a description of the app project

to entwickler@nokia.com.

Deadline is 6 May 2014. Nokia will inform applicants about the result of their application before droidcon begins (which is on 8 May).

To help developers with their work, Nokia provides technical resources about Nokia X and a tool to verify app compatibility.

Good luck!
